Why does my teen get angry over everything?

Frequent anger can have several explanations, but it does not automatically mean your teen is being difficult on purpose. Anxiety and depression can both show up as irritability rather than obvious worry or sadness. Some young people also struggle to tolerate frustration and recover from disappointment. The pattern matters more than any single outburst. CDC

Notice how often it happens, how intense it becomes, and whether your teen is angry much of the time between outbursts. Frequent explosive reactions, aggression, or anger that disrupts school and relationships deserve professional attention. Treatment may involve helping your teen recognize triggers and practice coping skills, along with helping parents respond consistently. National Institute of Mental Health

I work with teens on noticing when frustration is building and practicing different ways to respond. The goal is not to eliminate anger, but to work toward handling it without becoming hurtful. Learn about my approach to therapy or explore support for anger and emotional regulation.
